Ross P. Marine, DHL, MHA, Fellow – The American College of Health Care Administrators, and a Diplomate – The American Academy of Medical Administrators, Chicago native, serves as Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in the Midwest region of the United States (Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma). He was appointed Honorary Consul in February 2001. He and his wife, Barbara, reside in Kansas City, Missouri. They have two adult married children and three grandchildren who also reside in the Kansas City area. Ross is a member of the Consular Corps of Greater Kansas City and a board member of the Czech & Slovak Club of Greater Kansas City.
Consul Marine has over 40 years of broad based experience and background in acute and long term care, public health and healthcare delivery systems. He has served in major healthcare organizations at the local, regional, state, national and international levels. He is currently licensed as a nursing home administrator in Missouri and Kansas. From 1994 to1998 he served as project coordinator for the American International Health Alliance (AIHA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the planning and development of a “Healthy Communities Project” in Bratislava, the capitol of the Slovak Republic, with a focus on the Petrzalka district. The past 14 years he has been President of The Murino Group Healthcare and Management Consultants, Kansas City, Missouri.
Consul Marine is active in community, civic, and governmental organizations and has served as a current board member/officer of various non-profit businesses, commissions and associations. Currently he is President of the International Visitors Council of Greater Kansas City, Missouri Board of Directors; Chairman the Medical Reserve Corps of Greater Kansas City, Missouri Executive Committee; and a member of the Mid-America Regional Council – Homeland Security Coordinating Council, Training and Exercise Subcommittee. Is a Rotary International Club 13, Kansas City Missouri – Paul Harris Fellow.
In his role as Honorary Consul, Mr. Marine has promoted and encouraged business, cultural, educational, and international exchange between the Midwest and Slovakia. He participated in the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce 2008 International Trade Mission to Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria. In 2009 Consul Marine, in collaboration with the Czech Honorary Consul and the Czech & Slovak Club of Kansas City, hosted a three day celebration of the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Kansas City, attended by Slovak Ambassador to the U.S. H.E. Peter Burian and Deputy Chief of Mission, Czech Embassy, Washington, DC. In August 2011 Ross and the Czech Honorary Consul and the Czech & Slovak Club of Kansas City hosted an exhibit of the Biennial of Slovak Illustrations Bratislava (1967-2009) and Czech art at a Kansas City art gallery.
In the fall of 2012 The Czech & Slovak Club, the Czech Honorary Consul, Consul Marine in collaboration with the Kansas City Public Library hosted a film series honoring Czech Film maker Milos Forman and a celebration event honoring Vaclav Havel the last President of Czechoslovakia and the first President of the Czech Republic.
As his schedule allows he represents the Slovak Republic at civic, cultural, business, governmental and academic events and activities in the Midwest, Nationally and Internationally.
He holds an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of BioSciences and Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri; Masters of Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bachelor of Science Health Services Administration from the Canadian School of Management, University of Kings College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; A Scholar of Public Health – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia/University of California at Berkeley. In 1996 Ross was the recipient of the prestigious University of Minnesota Alumni Association, “Gaylord W. Anderson Leadership Award” for outstanding public health alumni.
